Software Test Engineer (two positions)

Primary responsibilities
Participate on a project team of engineers involved in the development of software for Elster wireless telemetry products.  We are developing the next generation wireless meter reading system for water, gas, and electricity.  Candidate will have the opportunity to participate in Elster’s Patent Program.  Candidate will need to understand competitive products and posses the ability to solve complex problems involving multiple sub systems.  Candidate will work under department strategy and direction.  Translates department goals into own work assignments.  Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Provide a cross-functionally interface at the working team level.

Responsibilities include:
• Contribute to the development of project goals, schedules, and resource planning.
• Independently write, execute, and maintain test plans and test cases for the EnergyAxis® System.
• Independently write, execute and maintain regression test cases for the EnergyAxis System.
• Report test progress weekly according to established release schedules.
• Proactively identify obstacles that can impact schedule and reprioritize test activities to minimize schedule impacts.
• Work with developers to debug test failures and create defect reports.
• Work with Product Managers to understand system requirements and customer business processes.
• Work with Customer Project Group to troubleshoot and duplicate customer reported problems.
• Assist in the prioritization of resolving defects.
• Analyze, document, and keep track of test results.
• Establish a plan for automation and maintenance of regression tests.
• Evaluate and recommend tools to improve processes, product quality, or group efficiency.
• Help organization maintain ISO 9001-2000 certification.


Qualifications
• Hands-on experience in both manual and automated testing including functional and regression testing.
• Prior experience in development of test plans and cases.
• Abilities to comprehend, test, and troubleshoot complex systems.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities and continue to meet schedule commitments.
• Good working knowledge of Windows operating system and Oracle SQL are essential. 
• Basic understanding of XML is required. 
• Domain knowledge of electricity metering and/or electric utilities is desirable.
• Knowledge of Python, Perl and other scripting languages preferred.
• A positive attitude and good social skills are an absolute must. 
• Self motivated and be able to complete assigned tasked with minimum supervision.
• Willing to work extended hours when necessary to meet schedules. 
• Possess good oral and written communication skills and be able to use these skills to actively communicate to management and the development team to clarify requirements, troubleshoot issues, and report status.

Education
Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science combined with three to four years of related experience, or Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science combined with four to seven years of related experience.
